The bachelor's degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is not restricted. Students who qualify (see Admission Requirements for details) can register.

Bilingual SLP: Là tu parles!

This degree in Orthophonie (B.Sc.S.) is the only program of its kind offered in French in Canada. This interdisciplinary training program focuses on both theory and practice in the field of human communication sciences and disorders. During their training, students must complete practical, hands-on tasks in our laboratory.

Since Laurentian University's program is offered only in French, with bilingual clinical education, several cohorts of Francophone and bilingual speech-language pathologists will practice in Northern Ontario and elsewhere in the country, which will in turn improve access to speech pathology services in both official languages.

This four-year (specialized) program leads to a Baccalauréat ès sciences de la santé (B.Sc.S.) en orthophonie (Bachelor in Health Sciences - orthophonie). A master's degree in the field is required to become a practicing professional in Ontario (calspo.ca), in Canada (oac.sac.ca), and around the world, and is offered at Laurentian University.

Speech-language pathologists take communication to heart!

• Most Canadians take their communication skills for granted when, in fact, millions of them have a speech, language or hearing disorder that somewhat impairs their ability to communicate.
• Early detection and rehabilitation of speech and hearing impediments often help to circumvent communication issues at school, work and in everyday life.
• Speech-language pathologists take communication to heart! Whether they're working with an autistic child or a stroke survivor, speech-language pathologists do everything they can to help improve their patients' health and quality of life.
• Speech-language pathologists work with people of all ages, in schools, health institutions or the private sector.
• There is a real shortage of speech-language pathologists and health care services in Northern Ontario and Canada in general.
• Laurentian University also offers a Master's degree in speech-language pathology (M.Sc.S. en orthophonie) in this field.

Relevant graduate studies at Laurentian University

To obtain the title of Speech-Language Pathologist in Ontario, one requires a master's degree. This degree can be completed at Laurentian University (Master's degree in Health Sciences - Orthophonie) or at another university in Canada or abroad. Upon successful completion of the master's, membership with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is mandatory.
