The Italian Presence in the World

This course examines the phenomenon of the Italian diaspora, between circa 1850 and 1970. After considering the reasons for this mass emigration we focus is on the social, cultural, and linguistic impact Italian immigrants and their descendants had on the countries to which they immigrated, in particular, Canada, the United States, Argentina, Brazil, and Australia. This course will be taught in English. All books read will be in English and films watched will be in Italian with English subtitles. (lec 3) cr 3. Prerequisites: Ital 2005 or 60 university credits or permission of the instructor.
